Football Club Histories

Sheffield FC - The Oldest Football Club in the World, founded in 1857. Nice website with history. Needs Flash.

Arsenal - began as a weapons factory team in 1886. Also this Arsenal site.

Aston Villa - started as a church cricket team in 1874.

Blackburn Rovers - started in 1875 by middle-class businessmen.

Celtic FC - founded in Glasgow to help the poor Irish Catholics.

Corinthians - the legendary amateur club from 1882 which influenced Real Madrid and many S. American sides.

Crystal Palace - your local club, founded by workers at the Palace in 1905.

Liverpool - formed in 1892 after a split from Everton.

Manchester United - started by railway workers in 1878.

Preston North End - another cricket team who won the first league and cup double in 1889.

Sheffield United - formed in 1889 by a cricket team in the city where it all began.

Stoke City - claiming to be the second-oldest football club from 1863.

Tottenham Hotspur - founded by teenagers in 1882.
