To obtain a Grade A in your Geography GCSE

 

  • You must have learnt and accurately recalled detailed relevant information about the case studies we have used. Eg: You should be able to accurately locate the study, draw a sketch map to show its location and give facts and figures in your answers.

 

  • You should show detailed knowledge of geographical terminology.

           Eg: Biodiversity, continentality and infrastructure.

 

  • You must be to explain how physical and human geographical processes interact. Eg: how  location, physical site, historical development , economic changes and politics have interacted to produce the housing pattern in Glasgow (Leicester) or Cairo (Mumbai)

 

  • You must be able to explain how a wide range of geographical processes interact to produce patterns. Eg: How physical processes such as the uneven heating of the earth’s surface and the human process of urbanisation can lead to climatic patterns in the South East of England: Winter depressions, Summer anticyclones and the heat island effect.

 

  • You must be able to explain how physical and human processes interact to produce the characteristics of places and their interdependence. Eg: The nature of the interdependence between MEDCs and LEDCs.

 

  • You must show you understand complex interrelations between people and their environment. Eg: The variety of schemes to manage coastal processes from heavy intervention to managed retreat and the way that different groups will be affected by such schemes.

 

  • You must be able to explain how sustainable development affects planning and managing of resources and the environment. Eg: Ecotourism in places like St Lucia.

 

  • You must evaluate the importance of the values and attitudes of different groups of people involved in geographical issues and decision making about the use and managing of environments.

 

  • You must be able to use graphs, charts and maps to reach substantiated conclusions. Eg: give evidence to support your conclusions.

 

  • You must be able to communicate your ideas clearly and effectively.

 

  • You must be able to apply your understanding and analysis to unfamiliar contexts. Eg: on the decision making paper.
